This looks like a well made machine. It is simple to use with dedicated buttons for Espresso, Lungo (Regular Coffee), or hot water. It also has a button for steaming and another to run a cleaning cycle. It has indicator lights on the front for the various functions, including low water, empty coffee grounds, no coffee and a general warning light. The 43 page manual makes this machine look complicated but it's not and it includes a 4 page quick start guide to get you started pretty quickly. The first time start-up is a bit of a pain but I've never had one of these before so they may all require the same priming and rinsing.First, you fill the machine with water, run an Espresso cycle to prime it. Then run the coffee cycle 3 times. Next, run the steam wand until it runs dry. Then refill the machine with water and coffee and brew 3-5 cups of coffee and discard. Refill with water again and now you are good to go.Once the machine is setup as above, you just press the button you want for Espresso, coffee or hot water and wait 30-40 seconds and you have a cup of coffee! You can also do 2 cups at a time by putting 2 cups on the tray and pressing either button twice consecutively. It doesn't really save any time because it runs 2 cycles consecutively but you don't have to babysit it. Let's face it, 60-80 seconds for 2 cups of coffee if pretty darn fast! The drip tray is quite large so if you forgot to put a cup under the spout, you would not have a mess on the counter. In fact, I'd guess the tray would hold at least 2 full cups of coffee before overflowing and it has a red indicator that pops up to tell you the tray is full. The steamer is powerful.Read more ›

The SAECO Pure Automatic Espresso Machine is a great espresso machine. What I really like about this super automatic is that there are NO digital menus to scroll through. What you get are large buttons displayed with what it is you want. Want an espresso? Press the button that has an espresso symbol on it (cup half full). Want a lungo? Press the Lungo button (cup completely full). Listen to the grinder grind the beans and wait about 30 seconds and you have your satisfaction. The unit is made of plastic and I was apprehensive about this at first, thinking it may be cheap, but it's not. The plastic is quite thick and I think will last the test of time. The wand (for making frothed milk drinks) does an excellent job of frother milk. If fact, it is almost too good (almost) in that you get a heavy foam before the milk is fully heated. This can be remedied by either heating your milk a little prior to using the wand or just using less milk (or get a bigger pitcher) - so, it's not a drawback from the machine. I really like that the grinder doesn't make too much noise. Comparing it to my cuisinart, which is as loud as a train coming through my house, this is super quiet. The machine has lights to let you know when you're out of beans, out of water, or need to empty the grounds. All in all, this is one great machine. Is it $599 great? Well, for a super automatic it is. It really delivers great espresso and it does it simply with no crazy menus to go through. Of course, make sure you use good espresso beans when making the coffee! The machine is definitely worth 5 stars in my humble opinion. I hope to use this for years to come!!!

My third Saeco here...this one's no good. New design but brewing unit and other technical design are pretty much the same.Right out of the box, fit was not up to par. But the biggest problem was the cycle speed/time. The drip volume starts OK but slows down as if it needs a major descaling.Hopefully it's only this one, but it is one too many. I've been very happy with Saeco, but this will have to be returned.
