Good with one shortcoming

It works well in our living room and raises the TV up to the level we wanted. The one problem is the height of the shelves. They are not high enough for a standard size receiver/amplifier. Was able to find one that would fit, but it is a one of a kind slimline. The electric fireplace does provide enough heat for our living room when used as the only heat source.

This Espressione machine though medium priced, is terrific. Before buying it, I researched espresso cappuccino machines in this price range, extensively. The Espressione has impressive power stats. I love European style coffee, and this machine delivers it. Suggestion: I bought it in white and it's hard to keep clean.Wish I'd bought the graphite.

Very stylish, easy to fit my large frothing pitcher under steam wand.Works extremely well with ese pods from Starbucks. I got good support from the home office in New York before I even bought it. My biggest disappointment.....

I purchased this product in January or February of 2010 if my memory serves me well....I had no time to use it until sometimes in March when I realized what a disappointment it was. The machine smelled like burnt electric wires. The cheap plastic handle broke while I was fastening it in place... The coffee tasted like plastic from the plastic water container. The machine was very slow with one shot and it took forever, about 15 minutes for one double espresso to drip out. The reason I purchased it so I do not have to go through the routine of making two espressos every morning when I have company, which is very often... I called Amazon, I explained to them I have plenty of experience with making espresso, so I knew it had too many problems to make it into a good espresso machine from all these problems, so I asked for a refund or credit toward a different kind. I was told to file a claim with [...] since it was purchased through Amazon from [...]. [...] refused to help since I was out of the 30 day warranty, they referred me to the factory warranty. I called the company who told me to mail it back to them at my expense which I did...They replaced the broken pod handle, replaced the pump and mailed it back to me. Now it makes one espresso without problems, it still does not make double espressos as it claims it should..If you pack two measures of coffee the pump cannot handle it...The plastic taste is still there but I got tired of calling and shipping at my own expense, so I'll either live with it or throw it in the trash after a lifespan of 5 months.....not happy at all with this purchase and not happy the way Amazon and [...] handled my complaint. Go with something more reliable like Capresso or such and buy it from Amazon directly so their warranty will cover you....This is the only item I purchased on the net that I was not happy with....

Purchased from Whole Latte Love / IMPORTIKA in March 2009 - STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANYAfter about 5 months of usage the machine started leaking water from underneath. I called in for warranty service and was advised to drop off the machine to my local authorized repair center. The repair center has replaced parts and charged $100.00 stating this is not warranty covered. They have never informed me until after the fact. Apart from that, they also damaged front panel, all scratched up and said that I did it during time I was using it. I contacted Whole Latte Love and GAGGIA distributor - IMPORTIKA. Importika denied warranty, said it was normal for any superautomatic machine to leak water after few months - part of wear and tear. I was also told that it might have been due to me incorrectly attaching milk island. I don't own or ever used milk island. Tech could not believe when I told him that.Importika/Whole Latte Love initially said they would look into the matter and never did anything, never contacted me back.-The machine makes good espresso. Steamer is rather weak and the frothing attachment is horrible. If you are serious coffee drinker, like lattes, know anything about microfoam and would like to make it with this machine's steaming ability - FORGET IT (no, it's not that I don't know how). You can make hot milk with some foam on the top.-Coffee beans container is not air tight around the inlet for ground coffee, as a result air gets it and contributes to coffee getting stale if left for longer period.-Click wheel works good.-Constantly need to refill water container, empty drip tray-Only 10.5 g max ground coffee per cup. Perfect shot has 7 g. So not even close to make 2 shots once, unless you hit button twice to make 2 separate shots.Read more ›

Well we tried the Gaggia Titanium and we did not like it at all (too loud, too big, odd settings).. This one, the gaggia Swing up is PERFECT! We can do Ristretto (tiny concentrated espresso). Noise level is very good. and the machine is too big at all! The only small minus is that the water tank coud have been a bit bigger but it would mean a bulkier machine (can't have it all). Access to the tank and the coffee dumps is very easy (much easier than the titanium model). I highly recommend it! oh I almost forgot the milk island attachment is SO good too! THe milk is froth to perfection, easy to do a creamy hot chocolate with it in less than a minute!

After using a semi-automatic espresso maker for a few years with ok but inconsistent results, I put it away in the garage and started just going to the local coffee shop for my latte fix. Recently, I decided to try a super-automatic espresso maker for the quality and convenience. I read a lot of reviews, and thought about different manufacturers and models, including Jura Capresso, but eventually I decided on this Gaggia after watching videos of it in action on another website (Wholelattelove).The machine was easy to set up and I was making espresso in no time. Ater using the Gaggia Swing Up for a few weeks all I can say is WOW. This is one product that lives up to its billing. No buyer's remorse on my part.There are a lot of really good features on this model but the most important thing to me is the quality of the espresso. I'm not exaggerating when I say it makes absolutely perfect, beautiful espresso every time. I've used Lavazza Super Crema, Lavazza Qualita Oro, and Illy espresso beans so far and all have made great espresso with gorgeous crema. This machine also makes a great long coffee for the travel mug.The steam wand is easy to use with a frothing pitcher and thermometer because the wand swivels, making it easy to get the pitcher out from under it. I liked the milk island at first but cleaning it is a little tedious and it started to leak after I mistakenly put the pitcher on the stand without the plastic housing. Oops, my fault. So now I just use the steam wand exclusively and I'm still completely happy.The menu is fairly intuitive and it is programmable if you choose. I also like the ipod-like wheel but the next model up, the Platinum Vision, has a touch screen which some people might like better.Read more ›

Great espresso, but too finicky

I've had my Gaggie Platinum Swing for around two years now. When it works well, it's great. But it is very finicky as to coffee beans and often will grind a brew's worth and then throw it out, unbrewed, saying Fill Container With Coffee. The machine is clean and there's lots of coffee beans in it.This happens less with Lavazza beans, but even with them. Support claims the beans are "oily", but the real problem seems to be the design.Avoid this machine unless you're willing to fiddle with the machine a lot and waste 1/3 of your coffee beans.This is my third Gaggia/Saeco super-automatic. Next time I'm switching to a different brand that doesn't suffer this problem!

From a Mechanical Engineer who bought one:I bought one without being able to see it first. First mistake, gearing, grinder and all machine parts are plastic. So, they wear with little usage and then screw-up. If I was able to see one, I would have never bought it. I looked at other design features and they too were poorly designed like the chutes the grinds have travel thru. You don't want to buy GAGGIA! Get yourself a simpler machine that works manually.In not quite 2 years, I have had 3 major breakdowns to the grinder, pump and dispensing solenoid. Each time you must pay for your own shipping, at least $50 each way, warrenty or not. I guarrantee if you buy this machine, you will have to have periodic major repair work that is expensive.

Fantastic little machine!

All I can say is...wow. We lived overseas for 15 years and have had some great coffee in the U.K. and Australia, and believe me I never would have thought that a pod-based coffee machine could make anything I would want to drink. My in-laws have a Keurig and the coffee coming out of that thing was rather unpleasant! We used to have a Gaggia Classic espresso machine and used it for a few years, but the problem with the manual machines is that one pull would be excellent and then another one would come out bitter. It was very difficult to be consistent which I found frustrating especially when trying to make coffee for guests, and it was time consuming to make more than one or two.Just got this Citiz after days and days of research and we are blown away by the quality of the espresso and coffee this machine produces. There is very nice crema that even passes the sugar test, and it smells fabulous. The accompanying Aeroccino plus is amazing, and these two together produce extremely pleasant cappuccino, latte, machiato, espresso, and even a decent flat white in a ridiculously small amount of time. The milk is heated nicely to a hot but not too hot to drink temperature and the froth is smooth and silky. We are on our second order of capsules from Nespresso and their service has been nothing short of amazing, we received our first order in 1 day. We are trying the Lungo assortment which seems to be pretty good although a little on the light side but even the decaf is tasty, Arpeggio which is excellent, and just ordered the Ristretto, Kazaar, Dharkan, Indriya, and Decafeinatto Intenso to try. I have three of these Citiz espresso makers. The oldest is 3 1/2 years old, and it still works perfectly. I have one in my regular house, one in my vacation home, and when they were on sale, I bought an extra one just in case. I also love the Aerocccino. Although their machine and coffees are not inexpensive, the coffee is fantastic, and you can make perfect cappuccino and lattes at home. If you use it a lot, you will save money over going to Starbucks or the like. I use the lungo blends – more like regular coffee – in the morning, and a couple of espressos in the afternoon. Great antioxidants, and keep my mind is sharp as a tack! Pretty much, the only cleaning I do is running a cup of hot water through it before I go to bed at night and then again first thing in the morning. The morning one heats your cup up nicely so that your coffee stays hot after pouring the water out. Can you tell him that I like this machine? I highly recommend it.

I was in the market for a single brew machine. I opted for Nespresso over other brands because I read all the other great reviews, besides I enjoy "Americanos". Must say though that my first machine did not work at all. Water spilled all over the counter. I called Nespresso directly and they replaced my machine with another one.One another note, I purchased my Nespresso with the Aerocino, the milk frother. My husband and I love it. Our morning weekend treats are homemade cappuccinos, and personally I think they are better than the coffee shop ones.

Works great and the coffee is good. The machine has a small footprint and the frother is quiet. I received this as a gift, and the whole capsule thing continues to bother me. I wish there was a good way to refill/reuse capsules. I am a French press-aero press fan, but this is nice for serving coffee to guests and the aeroccino is wonderful.

Simple straightforward espresso/cappuccino maker. Just works.I went back to basic after using a Nespresso machine (a gift from someone) for a few months. Can't stand filling up the landfill with coffee pods. Of course, it's easier to just pop one in and hit a button. But with just a little bit of effort (it's amazing how lazy we've gotten) I can get really great coffee taste from a basic machine like this. Just make sure to use good espresso coffee, although I have found that cheaper (than Illy espresso) is just fine too. But make sure it's an espresso roast.And this machine looks great on the counter top!

This is my first espresso maker so I do not have alot to compare it to but I'm quite happy with it. It is responsive and quick and the steamer works really really awesome and fast. It also reheats quickly between cups. The red is attractive and it is compact. It is quite loud and vibrating while making the espresso, which doesn't bother me, but you will wake anyone up that is sleeping nearby! The cup tray is not a warming tray, which I would prefer. I do not know if this is normal, but my only complaint is you have to be superman to lock the filter arm in. Seriously; and It won't work if you don't lock it hard. I'm sure this is to assure the pressure and maybe it's common, but you could not do this if you are small or older.

Do not buy this item, when you push the Brew button after it is ready it sounds like a 1910 Ford T Car, and shakes and move like it is going to run away from the countertop. I'm returning mine right away

I can actually drive to Starbucks and wait in line for a latte before this machine makes one. The frother is so weak that it takes way to long to get the froth and make the milk hot enough. I am probably going to send it back and try a different brand. I had a Starbucks barista for a long tome and loved it but it had a problem with the steamer control so I tried this one. Big mistake and payed way to much for it. Forget about making more than one latte at a time it would take forever. Not happy at all with this machine. But I will say it makes a good coffee but for the amount of time it takes is NOT worth it.

De'Longhi is the only brand I have bought for many years (back before bar pressure was available), never been disappointed. I once bought a different brand at 3 times the cost and it was not as good as my De'Longhi. I am very happy with this machine!!!

It work fine for the first 2 months but it has stop frothing milk. We tried descaling and cleaning and different kinds of milk (low fat, whole, skim) same result. Then dead completely after 4 1/2 months...Not worth the money. Just nice looking garbage. What a rip off.

Makes real espresso on the go! (when used properly)

Bottom line - This device is fantastic for anyone looking to make espresso on the go! While this will not truly replace expensive home espresso makers, make no mistake, the Handpresso Wild Hybrid can make decent espresso, but only when you take the time to use it properly. I've used the Handpresso Wild Hybrid twice a day for the past month while I've been on the road. The results the Handpresso gave me at first were less than stellar but after learning a few lessons I am now very happy with the quality of espresso it produces. That being said, I never expected this device to make espresso on par with a $500 - $1000 espresso machine. If you do, you will be disappointed. I bought the Handpresso primarily for convenience when traveling, not as a replacement for a real espresso machine. Just follow the below tips, adjust your expectations, and you will be very happy with your $125 investment:1. Use fresh beans and a good grinder. Like any espresso machine, the freshness of your beans and quality of your grinder are essential to generating good espresso. If you're on the go, just bring along a good manual grinder like the Porlex Mini or the Hario Skerton. Experiment with the grind until you find a setting that gives you about 20-30 sec. of extraction. The intense filter is also unnecessary (not to mention overpriced) when using a proper espresso grind setting. I cannot speak for its performance when using ESE pods since I have only used it with freshly ground coffee in the domepod. However, with fresh beans and a proper grind setting, you will get real espresso with decent crema using the domepod. Amazing Performance, a couple of weak points.

Although I love this product, I had to deduct one star because it has two major flaws: 1) the rubberized buttons, top and bottom of the plunger, snap off rather easily AND 2) eventually, the unit will fail if you use it primarily with ground coffee (not pods).I am on my 4th unit because I have had all of the above occur. First two I RMA'd through the importer, the third and fourth I RMA'd through the manufacturer. I recommend the latter as it saves you on both return shipping fees and a $16 charge for replacement/shipping/handling.As I stated, I love this little machine when it is working. When done right, you would be hard-pressed to tell the difference between a shot pulled on this unit and one from a commercial machine, guaranteed. For reference, I have both a commercial grinder and commercial HX espresso machine on my kitchen counter.I love my espresso so much I packed this baby on a 10 day backpacking trip! It's worth it's weight in my pack without question. Just be prepared to RMA it about every 7-9 mo if you, like me, will be using it 2x daily, 3x week with ground coffee. According to the manufacturer the grounds will eventually gum up the valve. What you will notice is that one day you will pump it up but not be able to release the pressure. There is a certain amount of backflush/backpressure that you see coming from the plunger at the end of the extraction process--when you have expelled 95-97% of the pressure and there is no more coffee coming out--and you reset the plunger. You will also notice at times some leakage from there of the hot water that you place in the basin prior to extraction. My guess is eventually that is how the valve eventually fails.Read more ›

This handy little product makes a really delicious, rich cup of espresso. I have used Starbucks Café Verona in it (ground by me in small amounts.) The machine produces a nice little layer of crema. The Handpresso Wild Hybrid works so well that I use it not only for traveling but for my everyday cup of espresso. If you have a small kitchen, it's nice to be able to put your espresso machine away in a drawer when you are done!

I received the Handpresso Wild as a birthday gift and couldn't be happier.I'm using Lavazza medium, espresso grind and tamp the domepod with a spoon. (Just watched the video, though, and discovered the pump handle will double as a tamper.) I get a perfect single espresso every time with a restaurant-quality crema.Be sure to push the screen on the domepod down before filling so it's a little rounded out. Then when your espresso is done, just push lightly on the screen and the spent coffee pops right out. Preheat your espresso cup with a little hot water before you load the water and coffee to the Wild.I haven't used an ESE pod so can't comment on the difference between that and the domepod. I've used it while camping and on other weekend trips. It's a great way to start the day, wherever you are.

Espresso Mild not Wild

I think the name of this product has a bit of hyperbole in it, or maybe "wild" refers to the fact that it's portable (if you can find hot water), but the quality of espresso that I've been able to extract so far, had been more like mild.I have a Gaggia New Baby espresso machine, but I'm working away from home and didn't want to lug it around. I did take along my good grinder though and have used the same grind in the Handpresso that I use to extract espresso from my Gaggia. I also have used ESE pods (my coffee of choice for both whole bean and ESE pods is Lavazza Gran Creme, but I also have used Intelligentsia Black Cat espresso with the Handpresso).The flavor of the espresso is dependent on using good water, good coffee and hot water, but I have yet to get a real rich and deep, creme laden espresso from this machine. It's OK. I will continue to experiment with it, and get some exercise pumping the damn thing up, but my expectations were much higher than what I'm actually getting at this point. I think I would have had better luck with the mypressi TWIST (also on Amazon).

Heats up quick. You can be enjoying an espresso in under 30 seconds. Even the milk frother is quick, and cappuccino won't take more than 60 seconds. I think a couple of the stronger capsules (the black ristretto and purple arpeggio for example) taste pretty good. It's important to understand this is an espresso machine, and it makes a wide variety of "coffee flavored" drinks, but is not going to make something exactly like drip coffee. If that's what you want, you can come close by making an americano (running some hot water into an espresso or lungo without a capsule in place). It's nearly as quick and still tastes good. I just wouldn't want anyone disappointed because they are looking for something to make a 24oz mug for the morning commute. I highly recommend the Pixie for speed, convenience, taste, and did I mention it's a pretty nice looking machine? If there is a downside, it's the cost of the capsules. I found going directly to Nespresso was the least expensive but still not cheap, though customer service was good. One last recommendation: keep a cheap ice shaker handy to add delicious iced drinks to your repertoire!

The Nespresso Pixie is an excellent, quick, low mess tool for making very good espresso and the Aeroccino milk frother is great for preping the milk for cappuccino.Pluses = It really does make very good espresso and cappuccino coffee and does it easily with less mess than other tools. No need to buy a grinder ($200+) and less need to experiment with technique to get good results versus standard espresso machines. The Aeroccino milk frother is also less of a mess and more consistent in producing good frothy hot milk compared with the steaming apparatus on the less expensive espresso machines. The available pods are almost all very good tasting and only moderately expensive. The Pixie is very compact and takes up little counter space and would work well as an RV traveling espresso maker.Minuses = the standard dose for espresso is only 1.35 oz. (a lot smaller than single serving coffee makers like the Keurig). This makes a very small cup of espresso and also makes a very small cappuccino when mixed with an equal volume of steamed milk. If you want to have a 5 - 6 oz. cappuccino serving, that requires TWO pods and doubles the cost per cappuccino. At the Nespresso Club online store, they cost between $0.65 - $0.70 each. The Aeroccino works very well, BUT you must get just the right milk volume when using the frothing whisk and it must be COLD. If you use too little or too much milk, the whisk will NOT ROTATE. If it does not rotate, the milk around it will scald and you will need to clean it out before it will work properly again. This handy little machine brews a fabulous cup of expresso. It takes up very little counter space which is a real plus and it's easy to use and clean. Ordering from Nepresso is quick and their selection of favors is vast. No more speciality coffee runs for me. The reason I gave it a four star instead of five is because of the milk frother. While the frother works like a charm, it does not get milk hot enough when making mochas and/or other milk based hot drinks. To solve the problem I put the frothed milk in a microwave and heat it up an additional 30 seconds or so. If you are looking for a top notched expresso maker that needs very litte space you can't go wrong with the Pixie. When the maker's warrantee has expired I'm going to try the refillable capsules you can order on Amazon so I can brew different whatever brand of coffee I want.

So any real coffee geek would never buy this machine. I understand that. I have a real espresso machine at home, i buy fresh local beans, grind them with my 500 dollar ceramic burr grinder, froth my milk to perfection. This is my home setup. It took me a long time to master my barista skills.At work on the other hand, i am stuck with going to starbucks and getting not so good 4 dollar cappuccinos everyday.My point is, this machine makes the perfect cup of coffee, consistently, quickly, and with no mess.I have it setup next to my computer on my desk and in about 40 seconds, from switching it on, i am drinking my hot beverage.I think this is a very well engineered machine. I will probably keep it and buy into the ecosystem for a long time to come as a complementary system. It's great for the office, for guests when you have a party etc...PROS.-Great solid design- Frother works surprisingly well and quickly- Consistent performance- No mess, no fuss.CONS.- Even the strongest Ristretto capsule isn't really that strong when you add milk. It feels like you need to use two capsules to simulate a double shot. It was easy to set-up, it has been running smoothly, and is a GREAT sophisticated and modern addition to our reception area. The noise that it creates annoys a few people with sensitive ears, but it doesn't make it all the time.So far, we would recommend to others.
