I have had Nespresso machines for over 20 years (yes, that long!). I currently have an Essenza, a Citiz and a Lattissima Premium (in different places) so I have some experience with Nespresso. The Maestria is in a class of its own. There is nothing fancy about it but it is just extremely well designed. It feels rock solid and makes all my other machines feel flimsy. The volume control is extremely precise (contrary to the memory functions on all the other machines where there are variations from one coffee to the next: if you like very short espressos such variations make a huge difference). Because of the new technology involved ('quality seal') the pressure is constantly 19 bars (instead of 'up to' 19 bars) and you can really taste the difference. All coffees have even more flavour and body. The adjustable height for the cup support is fuss free and very practical (similar to the Citiz but with an even better design, and more solid parts), so you can use virtually any recipient under the machine (even -- heresy! -- a Thermos for travelling!). The water tank is larger than on the other machines (1.4l) and very easy to access, and the used capsules container is also larger (14), which is very handy. The frothing tube works most excellently, much better than on any of my previous Nespresso machines. The pressure is very high so the steam jet is strong and constant so you can perfect foam, finely texture, thick, creamy and very long lasting. It stands by itself on a spoon and looks almost like shaving foam it is so fine.Read more ›

Can't tell you how enthusiastic I was about this purchase initially. Have heard and read so many positive things about Nespresso machines. I researched them, tested them at various retailers, and finally purchased this Maestria at Amazon. It arrived in 2 days as expected with Prime.I unpacked it, followed the manual instructions to set it up and get it started for first use, and ... nothing, nada, zilch. It's not about to work. It's simply not happening.I've read other reviews about potential problems with the initial prime, but none of those suggestions worked. So I called Nespresso. The rep was extremely courteous and knowledgeable and readily acknowledged that this is a known problem. She walked me thru a few additional troubleshooting steps (try using hot water to prime) and without hesitation said that the machine is faulty and needs to be sent back for "repair". Not replacement, mind you, but repair. She stressed that I should not return it to Amazon for exchange as it is "most likely" that Amazon's other inventory has the same problem. So, they are going to send me a box to return my product to Nespresso, they will repair it, and send the same machine back to me. They claim they know exactly what the problem is and that I will be able to enjoy it for "many years" after it is repaired. They offered to send me a "loaner" machine as well. I asked why they just don't send me a new, working machine rather than shipping loaners back and forth but that apparently makes no sense. I'm stuck with the one I have. And this whole process is going to take "about 7-10 days". Great. Not a real comforting feeling for a nearly $600 purchase. Oh, I am apparently getting an unknown "complimentary gift" for my troubles.Read more ›

I was surprised to see that the reviews were so mixed for this machine and that so many people were having airlock-related issues.Having come from a Lattissima plus, I believe this is a much better machine:- It allows you to steam the milk to whatever temperature you like as opposed to the Lattissima which I never found got the milk hot enough- It allows you to customize your milk based drink however you like as opposed to having one preset program on the Lattissima- No fussing around with cleaning the Lattissima's milk container periodically (note: you do need to clean the steam wand on the Maestria periodically as a layer of dry/crusted milk develops on the threads of the wand...maybe clean once every week or 2?)- The Maestria has a larger water reservoir which is convenient (not a huge plus though)- You can adjust the size of your espresso/lungo shot on the fly which I particularly like. You could technically do this on the Lattissima by pushing the button again to stop the pour, but its not as precise.- Having the steam wand allows you to warm your cup up for a shot of espresso much better than just running some hot water through it.I didn't notice much of a difference in terms of warm-up times. It does take a bit of practice to figure out the best quantities of milk/espresso to use for your various drink types, but once you've been using for a couple of weeks, it becomes second nature and you'll produce the best coffees out of any other Nespresso machine.Read more ›
