Description

When Bodum took over a small clarinet factory in Normandy in 1982, it was not because of the fine orchestra clarinets they were producing but because of a relatively unknown coffee maker called the Chambord which they produced as well. The reason the French press coffee maker has become one of the most popular coffeemakers in the world is pure and simple, taste. The materials (glass and stainless steel) are completely taste-free so nothing comes between your ground coffee beans. This is exactly the reason why coffee tasters use this method to determine the quality of coffee beans. No paper filter not only means no waste, but that the coffee bean's essential oils go directly to your cup, delivering the flavor that is-lost on paper filters. Simplicity works best and is the reason why the Chambord's design has not changed a bit from its original drawing. Make taste, not waste.

5 out of 5 stars Perfection
Taylor Bostock

I have been toying with the idea of buying a handpresso for the past 2 years; I should never have waited so long. My job entails being on the road 90% of the time and the majority of that time I am in places where it is difficult if not impossible to get a decent shot of espresso. The handpresso allows me to have a quick perfectly pulled shot every morning. I have no complaints regarding this product and encourage anyone interested in getting one to do so; you wont regret it.

1 out of 5 stars No durability and questionable as to if you can call cup an espresso
gsk

Used for less then 1 year and only while traveling so less then 100 times and the air flow from the pump to the hot water clogged up. It also as per other reviews does not really make a very good espresso. Save yourself a bunch of money and get a good hand press for when you do not have access to a good espresso machine.

1 out of 5 stars Did not work!
Louise

I ordered this as a Christmas present. When I received it, it did not work. I tried to return it for a new one. So far I am out of pocket $80 for postage which I had to pay to return the faulty product! ($40 to post to me and $40 to return it) And I do not have the product!

1 out of 5 stars Unsatisfactory
P. Rosenthal

This machine seems promising, but does not deliver a a cup of anything resembling espresso. It is not difficult to operate, but neither is it a pleasure to go through the clumsy hand-pumping and pod loading required. What finally emerges is a little infusion of mediocre coffee-flavored beverage with an uncontrolled splatter of foam (there's no way to call it crema) at the end. The temperature and quantity of the beverage are nearly impossible to control.

5 out of 5 stars Making coffee is more like making love, with this coffee machine
Seth K.

I've been a coffee pod advocate for years have had the Bunn MCP in my home for about five of those years. It's flawless, never broke, brews delicious coffee. My Bunn is also "hard lined" to the plumbing behind my fridge so I always get fresh cold water and never have to pour over the top. This was insanely simple to do and I'm not sure why more people don't do it. All you need to do is get the right adapters from your local plumbing or hardware store and create a "Y" in the 1/4" line that feeds water to your refrigerator. Then route the newly split line over to your coffee machine. Since most refrigerators are set inside a little cubby hole these days, I just drilled a 1/4" hole in the side of the cubby hole and put my coffee machine right next to the fridge (you can't see the hole any longer). Contact me if you have have questions about what type of adapter to buy - in all you'll spend $5-$10 dollars completing this little task. Well worth it for never having to fill up a coffee machine tank ever again.Back to the story....My Bunn MCP is awesome but folks have a tendency to leave spent pods in the tray (yuck) and you need to clean the machine (decalcify - as simple as 'brewing' a cup with vinegar instead of water) but the machine is analog in how it dispenses water so you don't really know you need to decalcify the machine until you notice that 7oz of coffee is starting to look like a lot less than that. So I went on the search for the next evolution in coffee pod brewing technology.Let's just say you get what you pay for. The My Cafe AP is gorgeous and melts right in with all the other stainless appliances like the fridge, microwave, et al. In five years, Bunn has really stepped up their game.Read more ›

4 out of 5 stars Good office coffee
EricInVt

My workplace switched to this machine from a K-cup brewer. In part we were motivated by the desire to reduce the amount of packaging discarded daily with the K-cups. We have two machines that are used heavily every weekday, and they are leased from a local service provider. Most people found the coffee quality equal to the K-cup machine, although we did change coffee brands. My only concern is that we've had to have one unit changed out several times because of water pump problems. Our vendor is planning to try either a larger water supply line (we have two units hooked onto one line) or a larger flow capacity filter.

5 out of 5 stars Great Machine!
Thomas

I am surprised that I am the first reviewer of this great machine. I just received mine yesterday. I bought it from another vender, but since I typically do most of my shopping via Amazon I thought I would share my experience thus far. Overall, this Super-Automatic is simple to use and makes great coffee, lattes, and cappuccino's. My advice though....WATCH THE DVD BEFORE USING!!! I thought I had this thing in the bag.. how difficult could it be to use??....Well it isn't difficult to use, but there are a few things I did that had I watched the video all the way through I would not have done. For example, when setting how fine or coarse you want the beans you have to adjust the dial one notch at a time while the grinder is running (still doesn't make sense to me). I paused the video before waiting for the lady to finish talking on the topic and just moved it a few notches towards fine...oops! Oh well, doesn't seem to have adversely effected anything, but now I know. Contrary to reviews I have read of super-auto's, the burr grinder on this one is quiet when running. On a scale of 1-10 where 10 is extremely loud and 1 is basically silent I would rate this machine a 5 and my Cuisinart Grind and brew (the one that hold like a pound of beans) an 8. I was actually expecting something much louder.Build Quality- I would have to say I am impressed with the looks of this machine and its fit and finish. I am sure some people will complain of the amount of plastic, but seeing how this thing already weighs over 20lbs. why add more weight. I thought about the Gran Dama, but honestly this machine is better.Coffee- I was also considering the Jura Z5 because I read good things, but the price was a stretch. Granted, this machine isn't cheap either.Read more ›

1 out of 5 stars DeLonghi support poor; F rating on BBB
T. Johnson

I'm not a guy that gets upset at my coffee/latte/cappuccino not being piping hot when it's made. I simply love the smell and ease that a machine like this brings to the morning. This morning I got the "GENERAL ALARM" death message. The manual states that the reason is that the inside is too dirty. I just cleaned the machine two days ago! There are no grinds anywhere! I even bought an air duster to clear any gunk that may have been accumulating where I couldn't see it. It's been taking longer and longer for the heating process in the past couple of weeks. I should've seen this coming. From what I've read across the internet, this "GENERAL ALARM" means that a part has gone bad. I've also discovered that the machine has a TON of little parts. I will be calling DeLonghi on Monday, and if they are useless (which is what I'm expecting), I'll call Amazon. I'll update this review. Clearly 5 months is not worth the price. If you asked me yesterday before it broke down, I would've rated it 4-stars based on the ease of use and not having to drive to a coffee place every morning. It loses a star for how inefficient it is at dumping the cakes (grinds get -everywhere- inside the machine).Don't be like me and say, "Oh maybe I'll be one of the lucky ones where it won't break down in under 6 months." There's a reason the majority of the reviews elsewhere state that you should expect such disappointment from DeLonghi.Update: The company that DeLonghi pays to do repairs in the US has had my machine for over 2 months now with no attempt to call and update me on the status. I called once and the women said, "Do you have any idea how many machines we have?" I won't go further but take that as you will. I'll never buy DeLonghi again.Read more ›

2 out of 5 stars I wanted to love it, but...
Steve-O

After spending a couple of weeks in Sydney with my wife and enjoying great lattes and cappuccinos while there, we decided we wanted to change from morning drip to espresso drinks.I was drawn to the Perfecta because people said it automatically makes authentic european style espresso drinks (as opposed to Starbucks style espresso drinks). I also thought my wife would enjoy a one touch coffee experience. I was concerned about reviews that said it did not make hot enough drinks. I took a chance thinking that maybe those reviewers were comparing to 170-180 degree F drinks from Starbucks when you want to keep the temperature at 160 or below. I downloaded and read the manual to investigate what temperature I could expect a milk drink to be made, but there was no information other than that you could adjust the temperature of the espresso shot and to use cold milk for the frother. So I could keep my options open for returning the machine, I purchased from Costco online for $1200.This machine is really cool and a great piece of engineering. I like the interface and the overall appearance. It pulls a pretty good shot of espresso. It has an okay amount of creama an comes out at about 190 degrees on the hot setting. It looks a bit watery during the last 5 seconds of extraction, not creamy. The problem with this device is with the milk. You'll notice that there is a cappuccino button on the front. You make a latte by adjusting the amount of aeration with a little slide on the jug. This is how you make a latte according to the manual. It really only does cappuccinos. Either the milk has big bubbles or none at all. If that was the only problem with the milk, I would have kept the machine. Those who say the milk is not hot enough are correct.Read more ›

5 out of 5 stars Maybe the last coffee machine you'll ever need.
love fishing

We have used this CM5100 3 to 6 times a day for about a year and a half. it has never missed a step. it has worked everytime. It took very little effort making small adjustments to help make a perfect cup of coffee. The adjustments have been to the just right bean grind, the amount of water to fill the cups we use, the strenght of the brew, and how hot. From the time you turn it on to your first cup is about 3 minutes and then quicker for the rest. Clean up is really to easy, just dump and rinse the catch tray. About once a week I pull out the brewer and clean up any grounds that might have spilled during the week. very easy while enjoying a cup that you just made before you started. just buy your favorite beans and go. Others we know have pucks that locks them into types of coffee brands, or machines that need oring replacments or service calls to fix machines. We have not had to deal with those restrictions at this time. Five Plus Stars for this coffee maker.

4 out of 5 stars Great coffee machine
Mr. S. Forster

I have had this machine for a week or so now and have tried and tested all of the features it has to offer. I have had several beans to cup machines in the past - the latest being a delonghi which destroyed itself. This is by far the best machine I have owned, it's very solid and built to a very high standard and goes about it's business quietly and efficiently. The espresso is outstanding, I mix Illy with Douwe Egberts and it produces great flavour with an excellent crema - plus you can adjust the temperature , strength and voume to suit your taste. I especially like the 'coffee' feature where you can get as much or as little coffee as you want. The milk foaming is what costs this machine 5 stars. It heats milk quickly and the temperature is good, but the cappuchinoaerator delivers poor foam - its thin and 'washing up' standard foam, not the thicker cream I like. I prefer to use just a steam wand, so I have removed the little device and just use the steam nozzle manually - it delivers plenty of strong steam and a good creamy foam can easily be achieved. The drip tray and waste hopper hold a good quantity and dont need emptying too often. It does use plenty of water, but then again you always want fresh right. All in all it is a great machine, only let down by the poor milk foamer - which can be worked around.

4 out of 5 stars Great Coffee, Less Than Great Milk Foam

Great machine, very high quality. I am in agreement with the other 2 reviewers from February 2013 and April 2013 and in complete disagreement with the reviewer from April 2012.Great quality coffee. Nice crema. You fill the machine's hopper with whole beans, it has a burr grinder. Push button, drink, enjoy, repeat. Volume of coffee in your cup is adjustable (done in machine setup) as is the intensity and the burr grind size. If you have a travel mug, push the button twice. The daily routine involves pulling the rinse tray, dumping the grind container and rinsing the container and the drip tray with water. The only other thing is filling the removable water container with water. This process is very easy. IF, you do it daily. If you like to let it go, the rinse water will fill the tray until the machine stops. Then carrying the tray across the kitchen is a little precarious. This thing is easier to clean than a drip coffeemaker. The machine is shipped with a litmus paper tester to check your water hardness. We have a water softener and use a Brita filter, so our water was on the softer side. During initial setup you adjust your water hardness in machine settings so that it properly determines how often to demand cleaning. This is important as you don't want the boiler caked with scale. There are two cleaning functions, both involve purchasing cleaning / descaling tablets ( 2 types ). Our machine in 5 months of use has required the brew unit cleaning twice and descaling once. Both are a simple process of filling the machine with water and dropping in one tablet. The machine has a readout that tells what to do. Each process takes 10 or 15 minutes. The only downside is that the machine stops operating and demands cleaning.Read more ›

1 out of 5 stars heigh maintenance, poor value.

Yes, this machine does pull a decent espresso when set up to do so. while i would review its brew as 4 star, other factors detract from the experience of living with the thing that i cannot give it more than one star.let me first explain that i do not own this machine, my parents do.they have an extra garage and space where i have a car i am restoring kept, and my review is formed of the basis of the times i have used the machines while over there, (over 100 times easily) and what i hear from them about it. i was around here when they got it new.the performance of this thing for something that cost as much as it does, and that it is automatic, is a major let down.the bean hopper always needs to be agitated and prodded while the machine is grinding the beans.(what is the point of the thing being auto if you have to stand at it and help it grind the beans and so on)the drip tray is pretty shallow and fills up easily, its design with shallow depth and long tapered side for the spout makes it very easy to spill when transferring to a sink, especially when the bean ground catch container is full making the tray a tat awkward.(we started using an extra cup to catch the rinse)contacts at the back of the drip tray have to be wiped often to keep the machine from thinking the tray is actually full(again, we started using an extra cup to catch the rinse)demands to be descaled or cleaned very often.(sure this will keep the machine serviced and operating longer, but it seems excessive, and probably is there to ensure the cup guarantee they tout.Read more ›

The variety of the coffee and flavors were great, however the machine started leaking coffee out of the front door after about three weeks.

This is one of the best machines out there. It has many programmable options including cleaning itself. It makes perfect crema every cup and the milk frother makes for an excellent cappuccino. The unit is well made and beautiful. I have tried numerous machines out and the Xelsis series makes the best drinks. It is well worth the money and will pay for itself. Saeco/Philips does an excellent job standing behind their product and also improving on it.

Excellent machine hat does everything as advertised, including the frequent water tank fills etc. I would buy again though - milk carafe works very well, easy to clean etc. if you can get a good deal, and shop around (even on Amazon), it is worth it!

5 out of 5 stars A Must-Have for Tea Drinkers
Mark Anderson

I switched from coffee to tea a few months ago, purchased this unit and am completely happy with it ... I can't recommend it highly enough. It's well made, ergonomic, well thought out, and a joy to use. The Japanese think of everything. A Japanese friend of mine told me that homes in Japan almost always have one of these units, or one like it. Now that I drink only tea, I can understand why.The three temperature settings (well, four if you count boiling) are perfect. 208 is good for herbal teas, tissanes, and also the increasingly popular (and wonderful) Rooibos. That's also a good temperature for ramen, oatmeal, etc. 195 is good for black tea and also oolong, and 175 is good for green tea or white tea. Now, you can make gourmet tea properly with no muss and no fuss. Just get yourself some gourmet loose tea, herbal tea, or Rooibos, (all available from Garrett, Adagio, or Teavana), and a convenient brewer, like "IngenuiTea" from Adagio (Teavana also makes a good one that might be slightly better in quality), and you will be good-to-go! Your taste buds will thank you and so will your body. (The health benefits of green tea and oolong are well-known, and also Rooibos has 30-50 times the antioxidants of green tea, and no caffeine). My blood pressure has dropped 20 points with less caffeine (compared to caffeine in coffee, black tea = 20-25%, oolong = 10-15%, green = 5-10%, white = 1%, rooibos and herbal = 0%).Buy a Zojirushi! You won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars I love this pot - updated
Parapet

I have always been a tea drinker, and after my last tea kettle broke (again!), I did some looking and came across this pot. It's not a cheap pot, but I blessed the day it came into my house. I can't boil the pot dry--it would shut down anyway, and this was important. It really does dechlorinate, so when I start to taste a little chlorine in the water again I empty the pot out and refill it completely, which takes care of it. For as much as I use this pot, day in and day out, a number of cups of tea a day, I appreciate it every time I use it. The water is always piping hot (I really hate tepid tea) when I want it, no waiting for a kettle to boil. It has a 7 hour timer so it can be turned off at night and when I get up in the morning there's hot water waiting. I could wish it had been priced a little lower, but I would not want to sacrifice the quality for a lower price.UPDATE: I've now had this pot close to 5 years. There is now one small spot of rust about the size of a pinhead just starting in the bottom of the pot, but the rust spot has looked about the same for 6 months now and is not progressing. I'm starting to look into the possibility of replacing the pot, though, in case it does start to enlarge. So far this small spot has not affected the functioning of the pot in any way. It still does the job, day in and day out, every single day of the year. I will certainly buy another one when I need to replace it, the "cost per year" is much cheaper than replacing tea kettles that break too often, plus I have the convenience of hot water waiting for me every morning. I still love this pot!

5 out of 5 stars Great for tea drinkers
Wavepacket

Just bought this pot. It is amazing. I'm going to use it at work where I have to go down stairs all the time to boil water. I can fill this on Monday and it should give me on-demand hot water for three to four days right in my office. It makes it easier to drink more tea. This hot pot is pure Japanese. Everything has been cleverly thought out. It is well contructed and it works great. The panorama water level indicator is very cool. Don't worry about the non-stick coating, it's safe. There's a slight learning curve to using the pot, but it becomes intuitive very quickly. This pot is meant to be left on continuously, but you can shut it down for seven hours with the timer feature. This is a great item with Japanese quality and inovation throughout. I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars For over 5 years this Pot has rocked!! - Updated - Updated again.
Barrett S. Ward

I bought this for my wife in lieu of installing an instant hot dispenser. I choose to write a review today, because for the third time in 6 years, I traveled to my parent's house to replace the under sink instant hot.I clean the tank about twice a year. We are lucky to have great water here and rarely get buildup in the tank. For 5 years this pot has kept hundreds of gallons of water at 208F without a hiccup. If you need hot water in an instant, this pot is for you. My wife drinks 3 cups of tea a day. I make a cup of instant coffee every morning. That's approx 8500 times this little gadget has given us water and it looks brand new, inside and out.I don't know of any other product in my home that I would call bullet proof, but this one is. Buy it, enjoy it for years.Update- it's 2011 still going. Still impressed.Update again-- It's July 2014. This bloody thing still works. Everyday. I don't even know how that is possible. I started cleaning it once a month because our water has become harder. When I clean it I drop in a few eggs- in the shell please. Why dump the hot vinagar water. Make some treats. Then clean it out. And perhaps I'm more gentle or have different water but the coating on the inside still looks fantastic.

5 out of 5 stars So Great!
Amazon Customer

Now, I did not buy this from Amazon. I believe I got this from BB&B. Before we got this machine, we went through quite a bit of Mr. Coffees and others like it. This coffee maker has been going strong for 2 years now and we are very pleased. We never really used the "hot water only" reservoir. We used it a couple times and it worked just fine. Just make sure to empty that reservoir because I think some of the condensation from the "coffee part" to the "hot water part". Were VERY pleased with this coffee maker.

We purchased this item in March. We did not receive the cup holder but did receive a refund. The coffee maker works fine. The hot water system worked well for a week or two and then we noticed our beverages had a bad smell and taste. I cleaned the reservoir several times according to the manufacturing instructions. the smell/taste was still there so I contacted Cusinart for a replacement. We got it this week. Hopefully the replacement will be better.

5 out of 5 stars Coffee maker for my bar!
R Sorrels

This machine is perfect in my bar! I own the regular coffee maker at my home and wish we had the hot water tank at home. I make Hot Buttered Rums, Hot Apple Cider, and Hot Toddies, and of course Irish Coffee's and other Coffee drinks with this machine. The Hot water side heats up very quickly, and the Coffee maker is very well made as well.

1 out of 5 stars So Sad, So Bad
J. A. Eastman

I was looking for a coffeemaker, 12 cup, with a thermal carafe. I also wanted a removable water tank and grounds basket. I also looked forward to having a clock on my coffeemaker that I could actually see. This one seemed to have all that. This coffeemaker worked perfectly for about 10 days. Why 10 days, I wish I knew, but at that time, I started to find coffee all over the counter every morning. I determined that it was definitely coffee and not water. After about three days of counter mopping and putting less and less water in the tank, it was still leaking. I had looked at everything I was doing, and it should have been right. That only leaves the coffeemaker. The only thing it could be, it seemed to me, is that the carafe (lid?) was getting an airlock when it got full to a certain point. Easily tested. I removed the stopper from the bottom of the grounds basket and the next morning I left the lid off the carafe and made a pot of coffee without the timer. No coffee on the counter, worked perfectly. I was right, the carafe and/or its lid gets an airlock on it. So I have to get up every morning and do the coffee by hand. It's not so bad, but making the coffee with the open carafe makes colder coffee. It is, however, a blessing not to have to set this thing every night anymore. There is a convoluted way of pressing three buttons about 6 times that is not not handy and is highly irritating. I would have returned it, but I live in a very small place, and I can't hang on to big boxes. I have no place to store them, so after a week of good results, I got rid of it. I would recommend anyone stay away from this coffeemaker. For such a high price, it is a real lemon.

1 out of 5 stars ALL stands for Air Lock Lid: Don't purchase this pot!
Walker

I concur: This pot worked perfectly for 10 days. After that it started pouring coffee all over my counters, into drawers below, onto floor, under dishwasher. It is not overflowing the grounds basket. It gets an air lock in the lid which prevents all the coffee from entering the carafe. About half, or two-thirds enters the pot... then, AIR LOCK! I've written to Kitchenaid 3 times now with no response. I've tried running the 'clean' cycle. I've tried putting in less water. Now I keep the pot sitting in a baking dish that catches the out-pouring of coffee every morning. For a high-priced coffee maker, I am disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars The best espresso ever at 85 mph!
I. D. Roldan

I bought this as a birthday gift for my wife because she's a Cuban born coffee snob that is very particular about her espresso and I thought this would make a great gift. We just got back to Miami from a week long trip to North Carolina and since we decided to drive straight through (a 12 hour trip) with as little stops as possible, this was the perfect accessory to take along. To begin with, when you hold this little guy in your hand, you definitely get the feeling of quality right from the start. It's weight and compact size (just right for your hand and perfect for a cup holder) feels like it was made for a road trip. The attached 12 volt cord fits snuggly around the device and has a convenient slot to hold the plug while not in use but is long enough to catch any of the 3 outlets in our car.Although we got this back in May, we never used it because we couldn't find a retail store that sold the E.S.E. pods because Starbuck's discontinued selling them (Thanks for nothin', Starbuck's!) and we finally had to order some online the week before our trip. We ordered these to try out and I'm happy to report we're very pleased with the choice.B0009P5Y9IAbout 3 hours into our drive I told the wife to make me a sandwich... Just kidding (she had pre-made the sandwiches). I asked her to try out the Handpresso which she had forgotten about and she proceeded to unpack it and read up on it's use. At this point, I need to explain that although Debbie was born a brunette, she's really a blonde at heart and has issues with instructions. Let's leave it at that.Read more ›

4 out of 5 stars Works like a charm
AS

I'd had my eye on the Handpresso auto ever since I heard about it. When I got a job where it was impossible to get espresso, my mind was made up. The handpresso is sturdy and made of high quality materials and yet it's very portable and light. It seems quite durable.Surprisingly enough, the espresso it produces is very good considering it comes from such a compact machine that uses pods (it's certainly better than Starsucks or any vending machine junk). While you shouldn't expect a 100% real crema from the handpresso, the coffee it makes is nearly identical in taste to the one I get at home with my "real" espresso maker. The best way to get the thickest possible crema is to stop brewing right before the bubbles start coming out (you can tell because the coffee flow will slow down considerably before the bubbles form). This little trick will give you the "creamiest" possible espresso on this machine.I use Kimbo Espresso Napoletano pods on mine, which will give you an excellent and authentic Neapolitan espresso: rich and creamy, yet not acidic or burned tasting. The Handpresso is very easy to use and requires minimal cleanup. The "trickiest" part of its operation is learning just how much water to put in it, which doesn't take that long to figure out.And that brings me to my only minor criticism: the 53 ml (1.8 fl. oz) water reservoir capacity is a bit small for the average espresso, which is normally between 2.5 and 3 fl. oz. They could easily have increased the water capacity a bit, but I'm afraid perfection is not of this world. Of course, you can always make yourself another espresso if one doesn't do it for you! Maybe in the future they'll come up with another version of the handpresso which makes 2 espressos at a time.Read more ›

5 out of 5 stars Excellent espresso in the middle of nowhere
Norman J. Pieniazek

While on a trip through 12 states visiting National Parks, we often had an urge to sip an espresso. Searching for a coffee bar in Google Maps sometimes suggested a bar over 120 miles away. Moreover, we prefer the taste of Italian Illy, Lavazza, or Segafredo coffees over the burnt espresso coffee taste found at Starbucks.Knowing the excellent Handpresso Wild Hybrid espresso machine, we were excited to see a video of Handpresso's new concept - a machine that incorporates an electric pump and a water heater nicely contained in a package full of safety features that may be used in a car.The Wild Hybrid works with both ground coffee and ESE Pods; however, you have to have a way to boil water. Also the pump is manual, requiring about a minute or two of pumping to get to the right pressure. The Handpresso Auto on the other hand is really simple to use. Remove the portafilter, fill with water (use bottled water) using an elegant system of dots to get the correct amount, place an ESE pod, and close the portafilter. Place the Handpresso Auto in the cup-holder of your car, unwrap the cord and pug it into a 12-volt receptacle. Please make sure that your car is parked and that the engine is running. With the engine off, the Handpresso Auto will not operate sensing voltage lower than the required 12V.Press the Start button and the pump will come on for about a minute. Observe the thermometer gauge and wait for three beeps. Unplug the machine, turn it upside down positioning the opening of the portafilter over an espresso cup. Press the Brew button and enjoy your espresso.Fantastic!Added November 11, 2013: The machine did not work in my 2010 F-150 when plugged into the accessory socket with the engine running; however, it works perfectly when plugged into the cigar lighter socket with the engine running. To use it when at a motel, get the Schumacher 1216 12V 15 Amp Power Converter from Amazon. It costs $49.
