update 10/2/14: have to say we still love the machine but now both plastic hinges have broken off the water container cover so it's gotten a little more difficult to fill -- i consider the bad hinges a design flaw that was apparently fixed after serial number TU901227104140; still trying to decide if the minor inconvenience of having to lift the cover off for refilling is worth the $58 a dealer wants for the part (with shipping)Had a lot of frustration setting it up, but now that it's working I'm beginning to fear coffee addiction. Like many others, I got the dreaded E05 priming error upon initialization; must have tried restarting the thing 20 times. Finally called Saeco support and was told that this is a common error ("possibly caused by sensor movement during shipping") and that I should return the product to Amazon. Yeah, right. So I googled for help and found the trick to entering the Service Menu: immediately after you switch it on press the LR, UL, UR, LL buttons in that sequence. Then you find the pump test and run it manually. Voila! Got the expected water heating message upon the next restart. Even installed and primed the filter. An espresso and two great cups of cappuccino later, I'm a very happy camper.

Just got this new machines. Had a Saeco Vienna Deluxe for 8 years that seems to be getting weak (had the boiler replaced twice during the 8 years, but otherwise a great machine at $600). Easy to unpack and get set up following the quick start guide. Had an issue with the water filter. The quick start does not even mention it. Finally found the installation instructions in the water filter box itself. The machine would not prime when we inserted the water filter as we were setting it up. We followed instructions and submerged it and squeezed it to get the water out but it quickly put up an error panel each time we tried to turn it on and get to prime. Thought we had a bad machine for a bit, but removed the filter completely and put water in it and it primed right up the first time. Ran some water through the steamer wand and then reinserted the filter and powered it off and on, and it primed fine and is using the filter now without issue. One nice surprise is that the machine is 16 inches tall. The specs I read online somewhere indicated it was 20 inches tall which would have meant it would not fit under any of our kitchen cabinets. We were pleasantly surprised that it was only about an inch taller than the Vienna Deluxe machine and fits easily under our cabinets. It's a beautiful looking machine as well - a nice addition to our kitchen.Tried all the different coffees - with 2% milk it really froths and creams up milk incredibly - quite a nice surprise. Cappuccino's and lattes are superb. The carafe is a great design - you can pop it off easily and put it in the fridge when not needed.Read more ›

If you're reading this, then I'm betting you're serious about getting something in this price range. Yes, it does what it says it does. Yes, the other reviews are correct about everything. But here is what makes this special.I no longer have make coffee myself. I just push a button. nice.BUT, it seems like almost every super-auto doesn't heat up the milk enough. My Xelsis get the milk to about 105F. I like it at 150-160F. So, easy enough to fix but takes another 30 secs. I have to push the 'special' (yeah, that's what it's called)button to get the option for MORE hot milk (not hotter just more) as the drink options don't allow for enough milk vs. coffee (for my preference) and then once again for steam. But the steaming wand is ready within a second and the process of getting my mildly warm latte from 105 to 150 is about 25 seconds, which is outstanding! So, I do recommend this Super-A to anyone that wants a machine to remember their preferences for many people (6)and have the option to change it easily. You will have to tweak your settings a lot before you get it just right. So many variables but the menu system is so easy to use you really don't have to worry. I'm drinking my Xelsis latte right now in fact!

I've had my Saeco Xelsis Digital ID for about one month and I love it. I was impressed by the easy set up - it took about 30 minutes to read the instructions and get it started. That surprised me because I expected it to be more complicated, but it wasn't.What I like the best about it so far is that it allows for customization. So, I can have my cappuccino just the way I like it - not too hot, not too strong, milk extra frothy, but my boyfriend can have his an entirely different way. He likes it extra strong and piping hot. All we had to do was program our names and preferences and that took about a minute.I appreciate that there are different languages to choose from. I'm Italian and that was the first choice language, but my boyfriend isn't so we settled on English. Still, it's good to know that I can easily go back to Italian any time.Surprisingly, it cleans itself. That's a boon. It actually pumps out steam after every use that washes the various components. All I have to do is occasionally add water and empty the ground coffee tray. Oh, and regarding that - this machine grinds the coffee beans for you, so you get a just-ground, freshly-brewed cup each time. Beat that Starbucks! And speaking of Starbucks, the average cappuccino there costs about $5. I costed it out on the Xelsis and its only $.95 each. That's a big savings. The Xelsis will make more than just cappuccino. There are options for espresso, double espresso, latte and machiatto. It's also possible to make plain ole American coffee. It's a handsome machine, too. The elegant design makes it a great addition to my countertop. I was worried it might not fit under my cabinets, but it did. It works quietly and it even has an economy mode, so you can save some energy.All-in-all, it's been a great addition to our home and I highly recommend this product.
